From
this research I have discovered that there are a few main publishers for these
popular music magazines. The publishers that have appeared more than once are;
‘Bauer Music Group’, ‘IPC Media’ & ‘TeamRock’.
It
seems that they each publish a similar genre of music. For example, TeamRock
(publishers of Classic Rock and Metal Hammer), publish rock and metal
magazines, featuring similar artists.
Looking
at the circulation figures, The Fly appears to be the most popular magazine
(looking at annual figures). Q Magazine seems to be the most popular for the 6
month circulation figures.
The
Fly is a free magazine, which clearly affects the sales figures and boosts
circulation. It is classed as a ‘Pop’ magazine, but is handed out in bars,
venues and record shops around the UK. It contains bands such as Coldplay,
Muse, Razorlight & Foals. These would be classed as alternative or indie
rock bands.
Q magazine features a range of reviews for
music, TV, radio and film. It has well known for creating lists. These lists
range from ‘The 100 Greatest Albums’ and ‘100 Greatest ‘100 Greatest’ Lists’. Q
often give away free gifts, such as CD’s or books. I believe that Q is a
pop/indie magazine, featuring artists like Lady Gaga, Coldplay and Oasis.
